In 1987, th­ese two strap­ping lads opened a mas­ter­piece in alpine style climb­ing in the Hi­malayas:The Span­tik pil­lar, known as the Golden Pil­lar, on Karako­ram.Two thou­sand me­tres of dream­like pil­lar, that takes on a golden hue ev­ery evening the sun shines above the Hunza val­ley. They de­cided on their ex­pe­di­tions in a Lon­don pub. One evening, a mem­ber of one of th­ese late en­coun­ters pointed to a map of Pak­istan: the Hunza val­ley. Its par­tic­u­lar­ity: the pres­ence of a road, known as the Karako­ram High­way, and of one to two-day ap­proach walks. El Do­rado for th­ese climbers who could only travel dur­ing their sum­mer hol­i­days...Their story goes on... but, here, they talk of their early days.
