The right to drive
Saudi Arabia’s King Salman has issued a decree allowing women to drive. The Gulf kingdom was the only country in the world that banned women from driving. Until now, only men were allowed licences and women who drove in public risked being arrested and fined. Following the decree, women will no longer need permission from a legal guardian to get a licence and will not need a guardian in the car when they drive. The royal order will be implemented by 24 June 2018.
