A Pol­ish or­gan­i­sa­tion has held the first in­ter­na­tional beauty pageant for women in wheel­chairs in an ef­fort to change so­cial per­cep­tions about peo­ple with dis­abil­i­ties. Alek­san­dra Chichikova, a 23 year-old stu­dent from Be­larus, has been crowned the first ever Miss Wheel­chair World. “Fight your anx­i­ety and your fears,” the win­ner said at the con­test gala. The com­pe­ti­tion took place in War­saw and in­volved 24 fe­male con­tes­tants from 19 dif­fer­ent coun­tries. The “Miss Smile” ti­tle went to Nad­jet Me­sk­ine from France and “Miss Kind­ness” to Va­hen King from Canada.
