Monkey selfie

In 2011, Naruto, a monkey in the Indonesian jungle, snapped this selfie using a camera owned by British photographer David Slater. The image made Naruto an Internet celebrity and sparked a dispute over who owned the copyright for the photo: the macaque or the man? PETA, the organization suing on behalf of the monkey, announced last month that a settlement had finally been reached. In a joint statement with PETA, David Slater agreed to donate 25% of the money generated by the selfie to charities "dedicated to protecting the welfare or habitat of Naruto."
