2017 is definitely

Sampha’s year. In September, the British singersongwriter won the Mercury prize, one of the UK’s most prestigious music awards. The 28-yearold artist beat other prestigious nominees such as Ed Sheeran, Alt J, The xx and the Glass Animals. For a long time, he was better known as a guest vocalist on other people's records, his soulful voice appearing on songs by Beyoncé, Drake and Kanye West. Sampha’s debut album Process has been widely praised by critics. This victory should propel him further into the spotlight.
