Oil Spill

Vladimir Putin has recently declared a state of emergency after 20,000 tons of diesel fuel spilled into a river within the Artic circle. The accident was caused by a local power plant, that vowed to draw off the fuel from the river. The state fisheries have called the event an "ecological catastrophe" and claimed that the water system will take decades to recover – the water has turned crimson. The incident has been described as the second largest spill in modern Russia's history.
