The Petit Palais, the city’s fine arts museum, is presenting two exhibitions devoted to Baroque art of the 18th century. A spectacular ensemble of religious paintings created in the 18th century for the churches of Paris is being shown to the public for the first time. Through 200 works the show, entitled Le Baroque des Lumières ( The Baroque of Lights) reveals the importance and diversity of this artistic production, which spanned the Regency and the Revolution. The works are shown in a spectacular setting suggesting the interior of a church and its diverse related spaces such as chapels and the sacristy. In parallel the museum is presenting an exhibition entitled From Watteau to David with some 200 works emanating from the Boston-based Horvitz Collection, the largest private collection of French drawings of the 18th century outside of France.
