The Museum of Lace and Fashion in Calais, one of the cradle’s of French lacemaking, is hosting an exhibition devoted to the work of Hubert de Givenchy presenting 80 outfits and accessories emanating from prestigious private wardrobes, the archives of the House of Givenchy and museum collections including that of the Museum of Lace and Fashion. The exhibition is placed under the artistic direction of Hubert de Givenchy himself and the show spans his entire career. On display are dresses worn by Jacqueline Kennedy, the Duchess of Windsor, and the Duchess of Cadaval, and there is a special focus on the designer’s relationship with Audrey Hepburn, which led to the construction of her unique style both on and off the screen. A number of display cases are dedicated to her and the visitor can discover the dresses worn by the star in Breakfast at Tiffany’s and How to Steal a Million.
