The Mu­seum of Lace and Fash­ion in Calais, one of the cra­dle’s of French lace­mak­ing, is host­ing an ex­hi­bi­tion de­voted to the work of Hu­bert de Givenchy pre­sent­ing 80 out­fits and ac­ces­sories em­a­nat­ing from pres­ti­gious pri­vate wardrobes, the ar­chives of the House of Givenchy and mu­seum col­lec­tions in­clud­ing that of the Mu­seum of Lace and Fash­ion. The ex­hi­bi­tion is placed un­der the artis­tic di­rec­tion of Hu­bert de Givenchy him­self and the show spans his en­tire ca­reer. On dis­play are dresses worn by Jac­que­line Kennedy, the Duchess of Wind­sor, and the Duchess of Ca­daval, and there is a spe­cial fo­cus on the de­signer’s re­la­tion­ship with Au­drey Hep­burn, which led to the con­struc­tion of her unique style both on and off the screen. A num­ber of dis­play cases are ded­i­cated to her and the vis­i­tor can dis­cover the dresses worn by the star in Break­fast at Tif­fany’s and How to Steal a Mil­lion.
