Devoted to Delacroix
The Musée National Eugène-Delacroix, nestled in a country-like setting, is presenting a major exhibition entitled Maurice Denis and Eugène Delacroix from the Studio to the Museum. The show, which features some outstanding loans, celebrates painters like Maurice Denis whose admiration for Delacroix inspired them to turn the artist’s last home and studio into a museum. It is the first exhibition to analyse and showcase the power and scale of Delacroix’s influence on these painters, among them Denis, Pierre Bonnard and Edouard Vuillard. A host of works by major painters including Delacroix, Cézanne, Matisse and Denis are also on display. The show also traces the history of the museum, which is located on a tiny place in the Saint-Germain-des-Prés neighbourhood and has been recently renovated and extended.
