A Call from the Cal­las

The life and leg­end of Maria Cal­las are be­ing played out in an ex­hi­bi­tion en­ti­tled Maria by Cal­las mark­ing the 40th an­niver­sary of the singer’s death. The show, be­ing held at the new mu­si­cal and cul­tural venue, La Seine Mu­si­cale, brings to­gether pho­to­graphs, pri­vate movies shot in Su­per 8 film, pri­vate record­ings of her con­certs, let­ters, rare images of in­ter­views and back­stage at her per­for­mances as well as stage cos­tumes. There are record­ings of in­ter­views, both vis­ual and au­dio, of Maria Cal­las and with those that knew her in­clud­ing Alain Delon and Valéry Gis­card d’Es­taing. Five thou­sand pho­to­graphs trace her life from child­hood to her early be­gin­nings on stage to the farewell tour of 1973/1974 as well as her va­ca­tions dur­ing the jet set years. The visit is ac­com­pa­nied by her voice through in­ter­views and record­ings.
