A Call from the Callas
The life and legend of Maria Callas are being played out in an exhibition entitled Maria by Callas marking the 40th anniversary of the singer’s death. The show, being held at the new musical and cultural venue, La Seine Musicale, brings together photographs, private movies shot in Super 8 film, private recordings of her concerts, letters, rare images of interviews and backstage at her performances as well as stage costumes. There are recordings of interviews, both visual and audio, of Maria Callas and with those that knew her including Alain Delon and Valéry Giscard d’Estaing. Five thousand photographs trace her life from childhood to her early beginnings on stage to the farewell tour of 1973/1974 as well as her vacations during the jet set years. The visit is accompanied by her voice through interviews and recordings.
