The celebrated photo gallery, Galerie Agathe Gaillard, has re-opened its doors in style with a group exhibition devoted to beauty. Entitled Hommage à la Beauté (Tribute to Beauty), the show brings together myriad works by, among others, Edouard Boubat, Jean-Philippe Charbonnier and Marc Riboud. Diverse types of beauty are represented in the photographs ranging from the beauty of the body to that of nature, of materials like stone, but also another kind of beauty that of mystery, of silence, of being. There is the imposing picture of Bianca Jagger by Erica Lennard, a graceful dervish by Giorgia Fiorio, and an anonymous neckline by Luc Choquer. Agathe Gaillard opened her gallery in the Marais in 1975, the first gallery in France devoted to photography and which showcased and supported the work of major photographers including Henri Cartier- Bresson and Hervé Guibert. Today the gallery, under new ownership and directed by Fiona Sanjabi, continues to exhibit the gallery’s historic photographers and vintage prints as well as contemporary photographers.
