The cel­e­brated photo gallery, Ga­lerie Agathe Gail­lard, has re-opened its doors in style with a group ex­hi­bi­tion de­voted to beauty. En­ti­tled Hom­mage à la Beauté (Tribute to Beauty), the show brings to­gether myr­iad works by, among oth­ers, Edouard Boubat, Jean-Philippe Char­bon­nier and Marc Ri­boud. Di­verse types of beauty are rep­re­sented in the pho­to­graphs rang­ing from the beauty of the body to that of na­ture, of ma­te­ri­als like stone, but also an­other kind of beauty that of mys­tery, of si­lence, of be­ing. There is the im­pos­ing picture of Bianca Jagger by Er­ica Len­nard, a grace­ful dervish by Gior­gia Fio­rio, and an anony­mous neck­line by Luc Cho­quer. Agathe Gail­lard opened her gallery in the Marais in 1975, the first gallery in France de­voted to pho­tog­ra­phy and which show­cased and sup­ported the work of ma­jor pho­tog­ra­phers in­clud­ing Henri Cartier- Bres­son and Hervé Guib­ert. To­day the gallery, un­der new own­er­ship and di­rected by Fiona San­jabi, con­tin­ues to ex­hibit the gallery’s his­toric pho­tog­ra­phers and vin­tage prints as well as con­tem­po­rary pho­tog­ra­phers.
