Re­garded as one of the most in­flu­en­tial de­sign­ers and ar­chi­tects of the 20th cen­tury, Gio Ponti is be­ing hon­oured by the Musée des Arts Dé­co­rat­ifs - MAD in the first ever ret­ro­spec­tive held in France. En­ti­tled Tutto Ponti, the show is be­ing pre­sented in the lofty main hall of the mu­seum and cov­ers the en­sem­ble of his long ca­reer, 1921 to 1978, putting the spotlight on the myr­iad as­pects of his work, from ar­chi­tec­ture to in­dus­trial de­sign, from fur­nish­ings to light­ing fix­tures, from the cre­ation of mag­a­zines and his foray into the do­mains of glass, ce­ram­ics and sil­ver mak­ing. More than 500 pieces are on dis­play, some of which have never left their orig­i­nal lo­ca­tion, trac­ing Ponti’s multi-faceted ca­reer bring­ing to­gether ar­chi­tec­ture, fur­nish­ings and decors for pri­vate homes and pub­lic build­ings. - P.V.
