Summer Lovin’
Wannsee Beach. Pack a picnic (see V. Useful) and zip 15km southwest to Berliners’ fave spot of wicker loungers, old-school bathhouses and murals. When the sun’s out, it may seem like the whole of Europe has come too, but the lakes, lined with turn-of-the-century and modernist villas owned by starlets and their sugar dads, provide respite from the edgy concrete unloveliness in town. By train: rent a bike in town (see V. Useful), take it with you to S: Nikolassee, and simply follow the signs to ‘Strandbad Wannsee’. By car: rent a car (see V. Useful), take the A115 autobahn towards Potsdam, exit at Nikolassee (#3), make a right then left onto Kronprinzessinenweg. Past the stately mansions, turn right at Königstr., go over the bridge, and stop at any point on this main drag. The shore is through the woods to the right / €4 euro entry
