Grill Royal will have meat lovers frothing at the mouth.

Nothing can compare with a great steak. Hilda Hoy headed to one of Berlin’s most famed spots to try something juicy and medium-rare.

Food trends may come and go, but a good, juicy steak will never go out of style. At Grill Royal, one of the most talked-about culinary hotspots in the city, meat is clearly the star of the show, perhaps only rivalled by the star-studded clientele that is known to flock here.

The meat- lovers’ hotspot in Mitte is clad head to toe in understated chic. It sits directly on the Spree River, and during the warm summer months, tables are set up on the waterside terrace. A seat inside, however, might grant an equally prime view of the gleaming glass-front refrigerators showing off a selection of prime beef cuts. During the Berlinale film festival every February, the restaurant is a particular celebrity magnet, drawing the likes of Scarlett Johansson, Leonardo DiCaprio, and George Clooney. But at any time of year, the real reason to come is not for stargazing, but to indulge in something delectable off the grill.

From Germany to Australia, Argentina to the United States; from Chateaubriand to T- bone, entrêcote to porterhouse: Grill Royal takes pride in serving the finest meats and cuts, cooked to perfection by the masterful staff. But even at a place like this, man does not live on meat alone: the menu also includes delicacies like salmon tartare, the finest oysters and lobster cocktail, tempting sides and sauces, and even selections for vegetarians. Whatever you order, the sommelier will deftly guide you through the house selection of more than 800 wines. Friedrichstr. 105b. T: 030 28879288. www.grillroyal.com
