Editor’s Note

Where Berlin - - Contents - SOLVEIG STEINHARDT EDITOR, WHERE BERLIN

There isn’t just a lot to see in Berlin. There’s also a lot to do. In which other city can you rent a raft and sail around the canals for a whole weekend? Or peek into drawers inside the private homes of eclectic artists? Or have a picnic on the runways of an airport? Berlin inspires adventure, and this month we’ve put our heads together to guide you through the city's most exciting experiences (p. 10).

But Berlin is also a city of nightlife. For undecided nightowls, we compiled a (slightly) scientific quiz that will help you choose the perfect after-dark destination, from a classical concert to a wild night of techno (p. 14). And since summertime often means family time, we also thought about all you parents visiting Berlin with young offspring. We all love children, but we also really love to relax, don’t we? Turn to page 18 for a list of parent-friendly activities that'll keep the children happy.

And there's much more to see and discover this month: remember, it's still summer, so pick any sunny day, grab your bathing suit, and run to the Schlachtensee Lake for a dip in the water surrounded by nature. For more urban views, head to the Arena Badeschiff floating pool in Kreuzberg, made from an old industrial barge. Enjoy!
