BRING ON THE STOLLEN
With so many tempting German treats, you'll be hard pressed to stick with your diet over the festive period. And what better way to break it than with Stollen? This sweet bread made with dried fruit, nuts, spices, and often with a marzipan center, is then rolled in icing sugar for the yummiest results. The Christmas Stollen tradition dates back to the 15th century, when Pope Innocent VIII allowed the use of butter during the fasting season of Advent. The city of Dresden even has a Stollenfest to honor the sweet delight.
