Sidelong Glances

Where Berlin - - MUSEUMS AND GALLERIES -

Known for its displays of works by Pablo Picasso, Paul Klee, and Henri Matisse, Museum Berggruen (p. 43) has launched a two-part series pairing the work of two artists to create new discourse through the contrasting styles. The first installment in the Sideways series, from now until 22 February, pairs Henri Matisse with French artist Raoul Dufy. Matisse’s works of oil painting, cut-outs, and drawings encircle Dufy’s singular ceramic work designed to hold small foliage as well as his sketches and paintings. This series of unusual juxtapositions of artwork provides a widened perspective not experienced in the singular displays typically seen in exhibitions.
