Swiss Getaway

Where Berlin - - DINING -

It’s the height of skiing season, but if travelling to the top of a snowy Alpine peak is not in the cards at the moment, a visit to Nola’s am Weinberg might do the trick. This cozy Swiss restaurant is perched atop a gentle hill in Mitte’s Volkspark am Weinberg park – though it’s a far cry from a mountain peak, you’ll still be getting a view with your fondue, thanks to Nola’s floor- to- ceiling windows. From early- morning breakfasts to cozy late- evening dinners, the menu focuses on hearty Alpine fare. There’s plenty of Swiss cheese, of course, Rösti potato pancakes topped with sauerkraut and sausage, schnitzel, or roast beef with all the trimmings. But the crowning glory just might be cheese fondue, that beloved Swiss classic, which goes down especially well during these cold winter months. The expansive terrace overlooking the park is especially popular on sunny summer afternoons, but wrap yourself in one of the available blankets and you’ll find it’s also a nice spot for a post- meal breath of cold, crisp, maybe even snowy air.
