Shoe shops galore, supporting the old cliché that "women can never have enough shoes."

"Give a girl the right shoes, and she can conquer the world,” Marilyn Monroe once said. If this also rings true for you, we recommend adding these stores to your Berlin shopping itinerary. Appalled at the state of Berlin’s fashion scene when he came here in 1978, Italian immigrant Riccardo Cartillone (www. riccardocar vowed to return to his home country and bring back the most modern shoes for Berliners to try on. With nine stores across the city, Cartillone continues commissioning small Italian designers to craft beautiful lace- ups, high heels, boots, and ballerinas. For more of a cowboy look, head to the large Buffalo Boots (www.buf showroom on Kurfürstendamm. This popular brand began selling its cowboy boots in Germany in 1979, and has now evolved into a trendy international shoe label. From the Wild West look to black biker boots, Buffalo is also famous for the sports shoes with platform midsole, which have adorned the feet of stars such as Cameron Diaz and The Spice Girls. Another must- go destination for Carrie Bradshaw think-alikes has got to be Budapester Schuhe (Kurfürstendamm 199/204, www. bu, featuring the classic shoe with low-heels, wingtips, and Lyra perforations, paired up with other high- end brands such as Jimmy Choo, Gucci, and Prada. All three of their stores are on Ku’damm – one for the ladies, one for the men on the opposite side of the road, and an outlet store next door. At Navyboot (Mall of Berlin, Leipziger Platz 12, www. navy, you'll find time-tested shoes, manufactured in superior, reliable quality that suit all foot shapes – ankle boots, pumps, loafers, and sneakers as well, with bags to match. And if you’re looking for the comfortable yet curiously fashionable German sandal, with the familiar chunky cork base and thick, buckled straps, then head to the Birkenstock store (Neue Schönhauser Str. 6-7, www.birken where you’ll find a huge assortment of Birkenstock sandals in quirky and colorful designs.
