Lake-Hopping in Brandenburg

Where Berlin - - SIGHTSEEING -

Sometimes you just need a break from hectic city life to recharge in the serenity of nature. Right outside of Berlin, in the state of Brandenburg, numerous lakes sit just waiting to be explored. Potsdam's Griebnitzsee, which lies where the border between East Germany and West Berlin once ran, is easily accessible by S-Bahn (S Griebnitzsee), while Heiliger See, surrounded by beautiful palaces and Hohenzollern residences, is a little more complicated to reach, as it requires a hop on Tram 93 to Ludwich-RichterStraße from the Potsdam S-Bahn station. If you’re up for a longer drive to the north of Brandenburg, you’ll be rewarded with Großer Stechlinsee, one of the deepest and clearest lakes in the state, with water clean enough for drinking.
