Take To The Streets

Where Berlin - - NIGHTLIFE -

Roller skaters know all too well that cobbled footpaths are a nightmare, and most have probably dreamed of having access to the city’s many smoothly paved streets. Those dreams come true once or twice a month from May to August, when roads are closed off to cars and opened up instead to participants of Skate by Night. Take off at 8pm from Alexanderplatz and enjoy the luxury of rollerblading along a 20- to 30-kilometer route, taking in the summer air and finishing back where you started. Each event has a theme, from singles’ night to family and tourist night, and the main event this month is Mauernight, on 19 July, a ride that travels along select points where the Berlin Wall once stood. Safety takes priority, so skaters are asked to wear helmets and protective gear and are also invited to attend a short class before starting. Visit website for details.
