Hatem Ferjani of the Berlin Marriott Hotel shares his sightseeing and dining recommendations.
What does a perfect day look like for you? I love to start my day with breakfast at Schönbrunn (www.schoenbrunn.net) in Friedrichshain. After that, I would go on a tour of the city, starting at Alexanderplatz and Nikolaiviertel, passing by Museum Island. I would then go to Gendarmenmarkt and to my favorite store, Fassbender und Rausch, for some delicious chocolate specialties. Refreshed, I would continue on to Galeries Lafayette on Friedrichstraße to find out about the latest fashion trends. In the evening, I would have dinner at Nu Eat (www. nueatkitchen.de) on Rosenthaler Straße. When you have visitors, where do you take them? I recommend visiting the Gardens of the World in Marzahn: It makes for a great day out for young and old. I also like taking my guests on a boat ride through the government quarter, followed by a sunset dinner at the top of the TV tower (www.tv-turm.de) with a great view over Berlin. Secret Berlin tips? The colorful Anne Blume café and florist on Kollwitzplatz. Describe Berlin in three words. Multicultural, historic, modern. What do you do after work? I like to go have dinner at Centolire on Leipziger Platz. Which event do you recommend in June? Berlin is an eventful city. In June, highlights are the Komische Oper Festival from 4 to 10 June, and the Classic Open Air concerts at Gendarmenmarkt from 21 to 26 June. Where is the coziest spot in Berlin? In spring and summer, I like to sit with friends at the Café am Neuen See (www. cafeamneuensee.de) in Tiergarten. What distinguishes Berlin from other cities? Berlin is Berlin, with heart and Schnauze (rude attitude), and always full of surprises. Do you know a romantic place in Berlin? The waterfall at Victoria Park in Kreuzberg, the highest natural elevation in the center of Berlin.
