Worldwide Harmonies

Where Berlin - - ENTERTAINMENT -

What began more than a quarter century ago in France has spread to all corners of the globe, with more than 120 countries now celebrating Fête de la Musique, also known as World Music Day. The musical celebration, which coincides with the summer equinox, sees cities around the world offering free acoustic concerts in outdoor spaces. The majority of the action takes place from 4–10pm, and although musicians are technically required to obtain permits, this is after all Berlin, so don’t be surprised should you come across troubadours performing at all hours of the day, in all corners of the city. Musical hubs this year are expected to be on Unter den Linden, around Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz, at the stage at Mauerpark, in Spandau’s Old Town, and along many main stretches in Friedrichshain. 21 June. www.fetedela
