5 Seconds Of Summer
After first attracting notice on YouTube, then accumulating a sizable fanbase on Facebook and Twitter, Australia’s 5 Seconds of Summer landed the gig that would launch their career: opening for teen sensation One Direction. The quartet has since developed a persona that has helped differentiate it from the notorious X Factor band, copping a decidedly punk look and sound, compared to the more clean-cut 1D. 5SOS (that’s “five sauce” to true fans) have also made music history, becoming the first band to have their first two albums hit No. 1 – a coup they’re hoping will help propel them out of boy-band-dom and into the leagues of other “legit” music acts. When the boys hit Berlin on their second headlining tour, expect plenty of punk-pop hits – and shrieking star-struck teens. 6 June. www.mercedes-benz-arena-berlin.de.
