Here Comes The Moon

Where Berlin - - WELCOME TO BERLIN -

The northern winter is upon us, with its short days and dropping temperatures. But the human species is quite an adaptable one, and Germans have found ways to make the most out of the winter darkness by adding a degree of coziness for every lux lost each day. This is precisely why I like November so much. I love the contrast between the city's warm interiors and the cold air outside, between the dark skies and the lights inside the shops. I adore the warm foods and all of the season's ingredients, and the buzzing, pre-Christmas industriousness I see around me. This fall, our office has been busy selecting winter activities and new sights for you to explore, from delicious vegan restaurants (p. 10) to sober historic memorials (p. 36) and fabulous piano concerts (p. 54). And while Annabelle Mallia tested coffee in a futuristic Microsoft café (p. 52), Hilda Hoy went on a trip back to 1976 to visit a Wall-surrounded Kreuzberg (p. 14). And since Christmas is around the corner, we've also selected a few products to inspire your gift shopping in Berlin (p. 16). Enjoy your stay! SOLVEIG STEINHARDT EDITOR, WHERE BERLIN
