Accessorizing is the best part of getting dressed in the morning.

With the right accessories, you can dress up any simple outfit. Matching your hat to your shoes and your bag, however, is rather outdated – best to mix things up a little. Here are some of my favorite stores for the right accessories.

Stepping inside Le Coup (Steinstr. 16, www. lecoupshoes.com) is any shoe lover's wildest dream. This women’s shoe emporium in Mitte’s fashion district offers contemporary footwear from a selection of avant-garde labels handpicked for their eccentricity, ethical concept, and outright style. Nearby Shusta (Rosenthaler Str. 72, www.shusta.de) blends unconventional urban looks with everyday styles for not only women, but for fashion-conscious men too. The focus here is quality and originality, featuring mostly unknown labels not available anywhere else in Berlin.

Few accessories make a bolder statement than a hat. As a beginner hat wearer, I tend to stick to award-winning Rike Feurstein (RosaLuxemburg-Str. 28, www. rikefeurstein.com). From suave trilby hats to elegant cloches, each piece displays character while still remaining low-key enough for everyday wear. For more daring individuals or that special event, I recommend Berlin-based milliner Fiona Bennett (Potsdamer Str. 81-83, www. fionabennett.de). Her motto, "all good things come from above," is evident in the spectacular couture creations displayed in this little boutique like works of art. As for bags, you can never have too many. There is the hipster’s signature messenger bag done in tarp material by MilkBerlin ( Torstr. 102, www.milkberlin.com) or bold leather bags epitomizing Berlin’s fashionable urban lifestyle by Liebeskind (www. liebeskind-berlin.com). But for that feminine touch no one else is carrying, visit Les Jolies Choses (Kleine Hamburger Str. 15). These hand-sewn, fanciful pouches are made out of printed fabrics sourced from the designer’s native Paris and are truly one of a kind.
