Resistance hero dies.
Apostolos Santas, one of the two men that pulled down the Swastika flag flying over Athens in 1941 during the German World War II occupation, died at the age of 89 on Saturday. Santas fought in the resistance but was imprisoned after the war due to his leftist political beliefs. He escaped from the island of Makronissos and fled to Canada. He lived there until 1962, when he returned to Greece.
