The union representing firms supplying state hospitals with consumables said they would lift their embargo on supplies in emergencies until May 10 but only if the hospitals make good on outstanding debts. Panagiotis Stravolaimos, the president of the union representing the suppliers, told Skai that the government had adopted an attitude similar to the “I Won’t Pay” campaign whereby citizens refuse to pay toll station fees and more expensive public transport tickets. Stravolaimos said that his contact with government officials had been limited to a two-minute telephone call. As for the bonds given to suppliers by the state to pay off some of the outstanding debt, the union chief said that these had been accepted following a 40 percent reduction in their value.
