A fe­male doc­tor who al­legedly put a pa­tient on a gur­ney in a cor­ri­dor of the cap­i­tal’s At­tiko Hos­pi­tal is to face trial on charges of neg­li­gence. The doc­tor was ar­rested yes­ter­day af­ter some­one re­ported the al­leged in­ci­dent to po­lice in Haidari, west­ern Athens. Ac­cord­ing to the head of the union rep­re­sent­ing hos­pi­tal doc­tors, Dim­itris Var­navas, sev­eral pa­tients were put on gur­neys at the hos­pi­tal af­ter bed space ran out fol­low­ing 165 ad­mis­sions in one day. Var­navas ac­cused Health Min­is­ter An­dreas Lover­dos of be­ing a moral ac­com­plice, claim­ing that he was “try­ing to shift the re­spon­si­bil­ity for the woe­ful state of the coun­try’s hos­pi­tals onto doc­tors.”
