Officials of the Hellenic Railways Organization (OSE) said yesterday that they had repaired serious damage wreaked upon a 100-meter section of section of the route between Thessaloniki and the suburb of Sindos. Unidentified perpetrators removed around 100 meters of electric cable on Sunday night, railway officials said. Officials said the saboteurs must have been well-equipped with special equipment and footwear as the track is permanently electrified with a 250,000voltage current. It remained unclear whether the perpetrators wanted to profit by selling the cabling or if the sabotage was intended to protest the planned streamlining of the lossmaking OSE.
