Record turnout ex­pected for Sun­day’s ama­teur road race

Up un­til yes­ter­day, over 10,800 par­tic­i­pants had signed up for the 28th Athens Fun Run, Greece’s big­gest mass sport­ing event, which this year is ded­i­cated to the Spe­cial Olympics World Sum­mer Games Athens 2011. The race will be­gin at the Pana­thenaic Sta­dium (Kal­li­mar­maro) at 10 a.m. to­mor­row and will in­clude two runs of 8.5 kilo­me­ters and 2.5 km, as well as an­other race of 700 me­ters for peo­ple with spe­cial needs that will be­gin at the same time in front of the Old Par­lia­ment build­ing on Sta­diou Street. Those in­ter­ested in join­ing the Fun Run can en­roll on the web­site or at the Kal­li­mar­maro at 9 a.m. on Sun­day. Streets in the cen­ter of Athens will be closed to traf­fic from 9 a.m. through 3 p.m.
