Greece makes cut for Euro­vi­sion 2011 fi­nal

Cyprus-born Loukas Giorkas and Greek hip-hop artist Stereo Mike are rep­re­sent­ing Greece in the fi­nal of the 56th Euro­vi­sion Song Con­test, which will be tak­ing place at the Dus­sel­dorf Esprit Arena on Satur­day, May 14. This year’s Greek en­try is “Watch My Dance,” a mix of hip-hop with folk-rooted zeibekiko rhythms.

The Greek team made it to the fi­nal stretch of the competition fol­low­ing a suc­cess­ful ap­pear­ance in the semi­fi­nal on May 10. “Watch My Dance” was com­posed by Yian­nis Christodoulopou­los with lyrics by Eleana Vrachali, while the Greek team’s chore­og­ra­phy on stage was un­der­taken by Con­stanti­nos Ri­gos.

Other coun­tries that have qual­i­fied for the fi­nal in­clude Ser­bia, Lithua­nia, Hun­gary, Ge­or­gia, Fin­land, Rus­sia and Ice­land, while hope­fuls such as Al­ba­nia, Malta, Por­tu­gal and Tur­key failed to make make the cut. Satur­day’s fi­nal will be broad­cast live on NET (ERT HD), start­ing at 10 p.m. The Greek en­try is ninth in or­der of ap­pear­ance.
