The rector of Thessaloniki’s Aristotle University, Yiannis Mylopoulos, has said that the prestigious institution will be forced to shut down unless it receives additional funding. Speaking to Skai TV, Mylopoulos said that he had asked the government for funding to support the university’s operation amid speculation about the closure of several faculties. He said that the university, which has seen its funding cut by 55 percent, had been pledged 24 million euros though it needs a minimum of 36 million euros to cover its operating costs.
