Stocks re­bound, add 1.2 pct

Greek stocks re­bounded yes­ter­day, ad­vanc­ing 1.25 per­cent on bank gains de­spite weak per­for­mances on ma­jor Euro­pean peers.

The Athens bourse’s bench­mark gen­eral in­dex ended at 1,346.87 points, just off a session high.

The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 in­dex gained 2.04 per­cent to 604.03 points. Banks jumped 3.77 per­cent.

EFG Eurobank rose 6.56 per­cent to 3.41 eu­ros and Na­tional Bank firmed 4.27 per­cent to 4.88 eu­ros. Pi­raeus Bank ad­vanced 1.98 per­cent to 1.03 eu­ros and peer Al­pha moved ahead 4.89 per­cent to 3.65 eu­ros.

Bet­ting com­pany OPAP rose 1.81 per­cent to 13.50 eu­ros af­ter plung­ing by more than 8 per­cent on Mon­day.

OTE tele­com ended at 6.97 eu­ros, up 1.16 per­cent, and power util­ity PPC inched ahead 0.29 per­cent to 10.41 eu­ros.

Con­struc­tion group El­lak­tor un­der­per­formed, slip­ping 3.07 per­cent to 2.53 eu­ros.

Hel­lenic Ex­changes, which re­ported an ex­pected 6 per­cent drop in first quar­ter group net profit of 9.2 mil­lion eu­ros, ad­vanced 3.29 per­cent to 5.02 eu­ros.

Turnover reached 67 mil­lion eu­ros, ver­sus 61 mil­lion pre­vi­ously.
