Stocks end in the red; banks dip

Greek stocks failed to hold on to mid-session gains yes­ter­day, end­ing 0.44 per­cent in the red un­der the weight of weak banks.

The Athens bourse’s bench­mark gen­eral in­dex ended at 1,322.27 points, af­ter touch­ing on an in­tra-session high of 1,341 points.

The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 in­dex eased 0.60 per­cent to end at 590.02 points and the mid-cap FTSE/ATHEX 40 in­dex dropped 0.21 per­cent to 1,357.77 points.

Banks dropped 1.03 per­cent, bring­ing losses in the last three months to just over 35 per­cent.

Na­tional Bank dipped 0.42 per­cent to 4.78 eu­ros while Al­pha Bank lost 2.27 per­cent to end at 3.44 eu­ros. Eurobank EFG gave up 2.40 per­cent to 3.26 eu­ros.

OTE tele­com also un­der­per­formed, fall­ing 2.70 per­cent to 6.84 eu­ros and power com­pany PPC shed 1.46 per­cent to end the day at 10.15 eu­ros.

Turnover reached 90.5 mil­lion eu­ros, ver­sus 108 mil­lion eu­ros in the pre­vi­ous session.
