The European Court of Justice is tomorrow to start hearing the case relating to Greece’s longstanding plans to divert the country’s second-largest river, the Acheloos, from the western part of the mainland to the heavily farmed Plain of Thessaly. The Council of State, the country’s highest administrative court, has asked the Strasbourg-based ECJ to offer its opinion on whether the government’s plans are consistent with European Union legislation.
