Fam­ily pay 1.5 mil­lion eu­ros

An Athens car­di­ol­o­gist who was kid­napped from his home in Sta­mata, north­east­ern Attica, on Sun­day af­ter­noon, was freed late on Mon­day af­ter his fam­ily paid 1.5 mil­lion eu­ros in ran­som for his re­lease, po­lice said. Ac­cord­ing to po­lice, the kid­nap­pers orig­i­nally had de­manded 2 mil­lion eu­ros for the re­lease of the 67-year-old doc­tor and set­tled on 1.5 mil­lion eu­ros fol­low­ing ne­go­ti­a­tions with rel­a­tives. The medic, whose name was not re­leased, is be­lieved to be safe and well. Po­lice are seek­ing to trace the sus­pects.
