Family pay 1.5 million euros
An Athens cardiologist who was kidnapped from his home in Stamata, northeastern Attica, on Sunday afternoon, was freed late on Monday after his family paid 1.5 million euros in ransom for his release, police said. According to police, the kidnappers originally had demanded 2 million euros for the release of the 67-year-old doctor and settled on 1.5 million euros following negotiations with relatives. The medic, whose name was not released, is believed to be safe and well. Police are seeking to trace the suspects.
