Thessaloniki’s outspoken bishop, Anthimos, yesterday told worshippers that they should pressure Greek politicians to create a “more productive and respectable homeland,” but he also used his sermon to attack some of the country’s critics. After praising fellow Europeans for “opening their doors” and “opening our eyes” in the past, Anthimos suggested that the negative comments about Greece now could be part of a plan to impose globalization on Greece “and then they will try to resolve our national problems as they see fit, which may lead us to destruction.”
