The Hellenic Food Authority (EFET) said yesterday there have been no imports into Greece of Spanish vegetables that could pose a risk to public health. The statement followed an outbreak of E. coli in Germany, which has killed 11 people and has been blamed on cucumbers that were imported from Spain. Hundreds more people are said to have suffered food poisoning in Germany after consuming the vegetables. EFET said it was in contact with the Center for Infectious Diseases Control (KEEL) and the European Union and recommended that Greek consumers show particular caution in washing vegetables, particularly those eaten raw.
