Three injured, three arrested
Three Olympiakos fans faced a prosecutor yesterday following a bloody exchange with rival Panathinaikos supporters in Gyzi, near central Athens. A total of 17 people were detained after fans clashed outside a Panathinaikos supporters’ club, leading to three people – one of whom was among those arrested – being injured. The most serious wounds were sustained by a Panathinaikos fan who was stabbed in the stomach. He was treated at the Erythros Stavros Hospital. The clash in Gyzi came as a response to an attack on an Olympiakos fan club earlier. The two clubs are traditionally fierce rivals but their basketball teams are currently involved in the playoff series for the Greek championship. Panathinaikos leads the best-of-five series 2-0.
