Three in­jured, three ar­rested

Three Olympiakos fans faced a pros­e­cu­tor yes­ter­day fol­low­ing a bloody ex­change with ri­val Panathi­naikos sup­port­ers in Gyzi, near cen­tral Athens. A to­tal of 17 peo­ple were de­tained af­ter fans clashed out­side a Panathi­naikos sup­port­ers’ club, lead­ing to three peo­ple – one of whom was among those ar­rested – be­ing in­jured. The most se­ri­ous wounds were sus­tained by a Panathi­naikos fan who was stabbed in the stom­ach. He was treated at the Ery­thros Stavros Hos­pi­tal. The clash in Gyzi came as a re­sponse to an at­tack on an Olympiakos fan club ear­lier. The two clubs are tra­di­tion­ally fierce ri­vals but their bas­ket­ball teams are cur­rently in­volved in the play­off se­ries for the Greek cham­pi­onship. Panathi­naikos leads the best-of-five se­ries 2-0.
