A group of hack­ers call­ing them­selves “Anony­mous” ap­pealed yes­ter­day for an on­line at­tack against the In­ter­na­tional Mon­e­tary Fund to protest the strict con­di­tions be­ing im­posed to ex­tract Greece from its debt cri­sis. A tweet from “Anony­mous Op­er­a­tions” us­ing the tag “Op­er­a­tion Greece” called on fol­low­ers of the Twit­ter so­cial net­work­ing ser­vice to visit the IMF’s web­site en masse in an bid to over­whelm it and shut it down. The hack­ers’ group pro­posed no spe­cific time for the as­sault, which it called a “de­nial of ser­vice.” A spokesman for the IMF was quoted as say­ing that the or­ga­ni­za­tion was “aware of the threat and had taken the nec­es­sary mea­sures.”
