Police yesterday were seeking two inmates who managed to break out of the Kassaveteia Prison in Viotia, central Greece, early in the day. The inmates are both immigrants, police said, noting that one was serving a 25-year jail sentence for drug trafficking and the other a three-year sentence for fraud and illegal entry into the country. The Citizens’ Protection Ministry ordered an internal investigation to determine which prison staff should face charges of neglect in connection with the escape, the exact circumstances of which remained unclear late yesterday.
