Athens pro­test­ers in it for the long haul

A man sleeps in a ham­mock at a camp set up as part of an on­go­ing protest that has drawn large crowds to to Syn­tagma Square in cen­tral Athens and other squares in ma­jor Greek cities. The banner reads, ‘Get out, power to the peo­ple,’ and is signed off by ‘the an­gry.’ Yes­ter­day, demon­stra­tors con­verged out­side Par­lia­ment for the 14th day in a row to protest the gov­ern­ment’s on­go­ing aus­ter­ity drive. The crowd had dwin­dled to a few thou­sand fol­low­ing Sun­day’s record turnout of around 80,000. The cam­paign by the self-pro­claimed ‘In­dig­nant’ pro­test­ers is mod­eled on a Span­ish ini­tia­tive.
