Athens protesters in it for the long haul
A man sleeps in a hammock at a camp set up as part of an ongoing protest that has drawn large crowds to to Syntagma Square in central Athens and other squares in major Greek cities. The banner reads, ‘Get out, power to the people,’ and is signed off by ‘the angry.’ Yesterday, demonstrators converged outside Parliament for the 14th day in a row to protest the government’s ongoing austerity drive. The crowd had dwindled to a few thousand following Sunday’s record turnout of around 80,000. The campaign by the self-proclaimed ‘Indignant’ protesters is modeled on a Spanish initiative.
