The governor of Central Macedonia, Panayiotis Psomiadis, has lodged an appeal with the Council of State against his removal from the position after being found guilty of showing undue leniency to an offending gas station owner when he was the prefect of Thessaloniki. Psomiadis is arguing that his dismissal is unconstitutional and a violation of his human rights because the offense was committed while he was holding a different position from the one he is being removed from. The New Democracy politician insists that he cannot be made to step down as governor because he has done nothing wrong while holding this post.
