New Democracy lawmaker Kyriakos Mitsotakis has sent out an open letter to all MPs, calling for a reduction in the number of deputies in Parliament and for MPs to give up certain benefits as part of spending cuts. Mitsotakis proposed three changes – firstly that the number of MPs in Parliament be reduced to 200 from 300, secondly the abolition of a parliamentary pension (in addition to the pension MPs get from their professional fund) and thirdly the abolition of the additional payments given to deputies who head parliamentary committees.
