Two face felony charges af­ter Wed­nes­day dis­tur­bances

Two of the 15 peo­ple ar­rested on Wed­nes­day dur­ing dis­tur­bances in cen­tral Athens were charged with felonies in­clud­ing dis­turb­ing the peace and cov­er­ing their faces dur­ing a pub­lic protest by a pros­e­cu­tor yes­ter­day. An­other 11 de­tainees were charged with mis­de­meanors and two more will have to ap­pear in a ju­ve­nile court as they were mi­nors. The ar­rests were made when pro­test­ers clashed with po­lice near Par­lia­ment. Thou­sands of peo­ple had de­scended on the city cen­ter to at­tend a demon­stra­tion by the so-called In­dig­nant move­ment and ral­lies by la­bor unions that were tak­ing part in a gen­eral strike. Four of the 81 po­lice­men in­jured dur­ing the clashes re­mained in the hos­pi­tal yes­ter­day.
