Cyprus President Dimitris Christofias said yesterday that Nicosia was persisting in its talks with Turkish-Cypriot authorities aimed at reaching a settlement on the divided island but that real progress could only be made if Ankara does not block it. “We are not being inactive, we are working intensively to open up the road toward a solution,” Christofias told a conference in Nicosia. “If Turkey shows the same will and consistency as us then this road can open and we can soon reach a solution,” he said. On Saturday, Greece’s new Foreign Minister Stavros Lambrinidis met his Cypriot counterpart Markos Kyprianou in Nicosia.
