Chinese Premier Wen Ji­abao landed in Bu­dapest yes­ter­day amid tight se­cu­rity to be­gin a three-coun­try visit to Europe, an air­port spokesman said. The sched­uled time of his ar­rival had been kept se­cret and air­port view­ing ar­eas closed, while the press were kept at a dis­tance. Hun­gar­ian Prime Min­is­ter Vik­tor Or­ban was on hand to wel­come his guest, whose visit was to last un­til to­day be­fore he moves on to Lon­don and Ber­lin on a tour ex­perts say will be cen­tered pri­mar­ily on eco­nomic is­sues. Nine months af­ter a round trip to Greece, Italy and Tur­key, Wen re­turns to Europe with a prom­ise to sup­port the re­gion’s be­lea­guered economies. China is to fi­nance a high-speed train link con­nect­ing Bu­dapest with its in­ter­na­tional air­port.
