Members of the Communist Party-affiliated PAME labor union placed a large banner on the Acropolis yesterday in a symbolic gesture ahead of a debate in Parliament on the latest austerity measures. “The peoples have the power and never surrender. Organize counterattack!” the banner read in English and Greek. About 300 members of the union entered the site before it opened to the public and dangled the banner at the foot of the Parthenon. PAME has organized rallies for today and tomorrow in central Athens, calling on people to oppose the “barbaric measures.”
