OTE pro­pels bourse over 1,000 points

A late buy­ing spreeon the lo­cal bourse re­sulted in the ma­jor­ity of stocks end­ing the week on a high, mostly thanks to the up­ward mo­men­tum cre­ated by soar­ing OTE tele­com shares.

The Athens Ex­change (ATHEX) gen­eral in­dex closed at 1,003.32 points, adding 0.70 per­cent to Thurs­day’s fig­ure of 996.30. The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX-25 in­dex ex­panded by 0.58 per­cent, end­ing at 335.05 points.

OTE was the blue chip leader, adding 4.97 per­cent, while banks un­der­per­formed, with Al­pha giv­ing up 4.55 per­cent and Na­tional shed­ding 0.98 per­cent. OPAP fared even worse, shrink­ing by 4.93 per­cent.

In to­tal 85 stocks posted gains, 66 went down and 20 re­mained un­changed. Turnover amounted to 69.8 mil­lion eu­ros, down from Thurs­day’s 84.1 mil­lion.
